This series of paintings explores the perfection and beauty of the logarithmic spiral.
It came from ideas I developed from sketches made during trips into the 'underwilds' of Northumberland, observing snails. Their spiral form seems to give them symbolic status, and much of this work is based on considering their place in the universe. What is their relationship to the earth? What is their relationship to the universe? Can I capture the relationship between the micro and macro?
For this series I experimented with a limited palette so I'm only using alizarin crimson, cadmium yellow, ivory black, titanium white and the very occasional dab of ultramarine which was totally amazing and exciting! I learnt so much about mixing and understanding colour...it's definitely the way forward for me. The paintings are either oil on board or acrylic on paper. Sizes and prices listed
